On 22 June 2026, the Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka, signed a regulation amending the statutory instrument on core curricula for vocational education occupations and additional vocational skills within selected vocational occupations. The act comes into force as early as 1 September 2026. What does this mean in practice? Here is an overview.
What does the regulation change?
The regulation introduces core curricula for 11 new occupations:
- in the precision mechanics sector:
- optoelectronics fitter,
- optoelectronics technician,
- ophthalmic optics technician;
- in the horticulture sector:
- floristry assistant,
- horticulture assistant,
- agrohorticulturist,
- florist (stage I sectoral vocational school),
- green space gardener,
- agrohorticulture technician,
- landscape architecture and arboriculture technician;
- in the ICT sector:
- cybersecurity technician.
Furthermore, core curricula have been revised for eight existing occupations:
- in the healthcare sector:
- pharmaceutical technician,
- orthopaedic technician,
- medical sterilisation technician;
- in the road transport sector:
- driver-mechanic,
- road transport technician;
- in the aviation transport sector:
- avionics technician,
- airport ground handling services technician,
- aircraft maintenance technician.
When will the new core curricula take effect?
For the occupations listed, the changes come into force on 1 September 2026 for the first year of study, or the first semester where an occupation is taught at a post-secondary school.
The core curriculum for the occupation of floral arrangement technician in the horticulture sector will take effect on 1 September 2029.
Additional information
For qualifications specified within the newly introduced or amended occupations (with the exception of those in the healthcare sector), it will also be possible to run vocational qualification courses and vocational skills courses.
Existing core curricula have been withdrawn for the following occupations:
- precision mechanic (with the option to commence training in this occupation still available in the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 school years), optical mechanic, and optical technician; gardener;
- gardener;
- horticultural technician; and
- landscape architecture technician.
Training for the occupation of florist will now be provided in stage I sectoral vocational schools, having been transferred from post-secondary schools.
